Neighborhood: SOMAThis is a new favorite restaurant for me. First off, the service is just fantastic! Not stuffy fantastic, but fun fantastic. The decor is funky and who couldn't love a place that has a picture of Jimmy and Kristy McNicoll in the bathroom?!!!
Being serious, though, besides the fun the food was fantastic. I had the duck and it was delicious. Cooked just perfectly. I also tried both my friends entrees and they both were very very good. The Chocolate Molten Cake ended the meal with chocolaty goodness.
This is one place I know I will visit again and again.

Adorable eateries lose their cuteness factor pretty quickly when inefficiency is in the driver's seat. A simple brunch with some mates on Sunday lasted longer than my last two relationships combined -- most of which was wasted waiting for them to honor the reservation we showed up for on time. Anyway, the space itself is fun and the food was tasty (Good morning, house-made chorizo!), but all-in-all, they made a rather bad first impression on me, despite some jovial mimosas thrown our way.

Over a year later I decide to give this place a second shot and surprise, surprise, it's the same shitty service with really good food! There's not a whole lot I can say that I didn't say in the first review already aside from does the owner not read what people say??? Because it almost seems like service went from bad to worse in a little over a year. Our brunch was great but took over an hour and a half for a restaurant that was half-filled the entire time we were there. Thankfully they comped us lots of mimosas to make up for all that, but I don't know how likely I am to return.

Holy shit, this place has AMAZINGLY good food! Yet somehow, they have AMAZINGLY shitty wait service… Read more »
We've went to Triptych twice and it was great! This is a good place for big groups and having a nice date to bring to:) The service was exceptionally good and the food was great, no complaints from me! You must get there as early as you can to get your table and booked in advance. Haven't tried their brunch yet but will do it this Labor Weekend!:) The people there are so nice and they really take good care of you really well!

I will start with the good and then hopefully justify my poor rating with the bad.
Very cool place - the ambiance and the decoration is very hip and comfortable. We sat in the back as it was a nice day and wanted to be outside. The front of the restaurant is very trendy and clean. As you walk back a long hallway, the kitchen is blocked off to the right - and the hallway is decorated extensively with some cool art. The inside has a very warehouse type feel to it. On to the patio - there are only 3 tables outside - all of them were covered from direct sunlight. There is a lot of green plant life surrounding the tables and it's very comfortable.
The food was good - I ordered the croque-madame which was served on a very good tasting piece of rustic focaccia. The ham in the sandwich was a little lacking (in terms of amount) but the prices were very reasonable. We ordered the beignets which were mouth-watering and tried the sweet potato fries, which were also very tasty. Everyone else at the table was satisfied with their meals.
After being sat - our drink order was taken, waters all around and 2 coffees. About 10 minutes later - we received our water, no coffee. We were enjoying our own company and weren't ready to order yet so we asked for some more time. About 10 minutes goes by and our coffee has not arrived yet. We ordered our food and maybe 5 minutes later our coffee was finally brought out. Sadly, the saving grace of my regular AM caffeine fix was delayed yet again. When setting down the second cup of coffee - our waiter chose to pour the coffee directly on the table.
Now - accidents happen. There MAY have been an apology here, but I don't remember. All of us jumped and moved quickly as coffee was flooding around the table. Our waiter returned shortly with a new tablecloth - and simply picked up the soaked one - and put the new one down - he didn't bother to actually dry the table, so the new cloth was stained and wet from what was left behind. He also didn't replace my coffee cup/saucer which was soaked with coffee - he just refilled the cup.
Refills were sparse - the woman who was refilling cups of water - spilled on people at the table each time she did so. I'm not one to complain - I'm not picky with these types of things. No it wasn't a drop of water, it was a quarter cup or so on each incident - both times without apology. If this sort of thing happens once or twice during a meal, it's easily forgivable, but our overall experience was soured because these small things kept adding up.
Bottom line: The wait staff had no real concern with the customers. Basic training like how to set a cup down, how to clean up a table after a spill, how to bring more napkins, how to replace silverware, how to replace water cups and saucers that were wet with coffee, appeared to be missing.
I don't like rating an eatery so low when the food was good - but overall experience could not be ignored in this case. The good news? All of this is probably a very easy fix!

Triptych exudes so much charm that I couldn't help but really fall for it. First of all the food is excellent. I had the pork osso bucco with garbanzo beans and crispy pancetta. The meat was extremely tender and delicious. As for dessert I indulged myself in the warm chocolate molten cake, which was everything you could ask a warm chocolate molten cake to be! Pure gooey goodness! The service was nothing less than excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and engaging. And I just love the decor of this place down to the disco themed bathroom. There's nothing like going to the bathroom with Charlie's Angels. I would definitely go back here when I'm in the area and in need of food.

Made a reservation for brunch on Opentable. Got there right on time and had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated (the place was half full).
Once seated it took a good 15minutes to get water and coffee. When the coffee came, the waiter spilled it on the table. After getting a new table top (without first cleaning the table) we were ready to order. 10minutes later the waiter comes back (the place was not busy) and he took our order. The food came out in decent time but meanwhile we all had empty cups of water.
The food came out, it was good. The eggs benedict with pancetta were good.
Still, lack of water. Poor service. Then, when the waiter took one of our cups, he dropped and broke the glass.
Food was ok-good. Horrible service.
We out outside in the back= was awesome, nice day out, loved eating amongst all the plants and out in open air. The place could be great with better service.

Went for brunch. It's a cute place to stop by if you're in the neighborhood. Probably more of a neighborhood joint rather than a destination restaurant.
Let me preface this review by saying that I've been on a streak of fairly standard food fare, so creativity and uniqueness as far as menu offerings go, may have garnered an extra star here.
Triptych has an open, relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. It's a dark canvas of tables and chairs, punched up with color by the eclectic art on the walls and silk cloth draped from the ceiling. The natural light tends to sneak in and brighten the place up. It has the feel of an artist's loft, but with a panache for decorating.
The server who greeted us was very friendly. She had a warm, beautiful smile and had mastered the nuances of unobtrusive hospitality. I worked for nearly 7 years on the corporate side of a national restaurant company and I would definitely hire this young woman. A person's expression, posture and tone of voice are just as much of a restaurant's atmosphere as the decor.
Triptych's menu is very eclectic. From what I could glean, the entrees consisted mostly of pasta dishes, there was a selection of sandwiches, burgers and salads.
I ordered the crabcake sandwich which comes with a house salad and my friend was more adventurous and ordered the shiitake ravioli with mango coconut sauce.
Crabcake Sandwich: The bun was nice and soft, the crabcake was housemade and thankfully it was not slathered with too much mayo or sauce. The flavors were very good, but the crabcake should have been thicker. It was very thin and it lent to the crispiness (and probably a faster cook time), but it was not proportionate enough to balance out being sandwiched in so much bread. Still, I enjoyed it very much. The side salad was a good mix of greens and tossed in a simple vinaigrette.
Shiitake Ravioli: the portion is what you would expect in an upscale restaurant, just enough without pushing the gluttony envelope. Surprisingly the mango coconut sauce was good. I was worried it would be too dessert-like and clash with the shiitake ravioli, but somehow it all went well together. The one criticism I have is that some of the raviolis were undercooked and too al dente for my tastes, almost crunchy. Other than that, this was a surprisingly good dish.
Triptych carves out a space in my 4 start heart because of what it's reaching for and how much potential their food really displays. Their unexpected combinations which could either land in the disaster category or in the sublime category, are closer toward the sublime, but they have quite a ways to go. As I ate the food, I really saw so much promise and potential here and would certainly go back.
Bill: two entrees, one side, two glasses of wine: $26 each.

Triptych is one of those places you can describe with a single word, in this case "eclectic". I walk by every day and (yes, despite the prominently displayed DJ setup) have always expected it to be a somewhat upscale restaurant serving some sort of French-inspired fare. Well no, not at lunch time anyway! Fairly bog-standard selection of salads, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, etc in a very eclectic atmosphere. The bathroom in particular is an fascinating shrine to the 70s. Which is not to say that I'm complaining! The design feels like it has integrity and is definitely a nice change of pace.
Oh but it's a restaurant, should talk about the food... well, the burger was really good! The waitress didn't even bother to ask how I wanted it and the chef grilled it up a perfect medium-rare. The flavor was outstanding, definitely one of the best burgers I've had in SF! Shame it was so small though, I would have ordered a salad if I had known. Or perhaps not as the side salad I did receive wasn't great, really needed more love in the dressing department. The mix of ingredients was good but nothing tied it all together. I'd go back, but... let's just say I wouldn't take a date =)

Oh mylanta! Are you serious? I didn't yelp this place! Shame on me. Then again, I'm like that (as Joshua P. has already kindly noted, I yelp in spurts)! Ha ha ha...
So, first, being an art lover, the name gets me. How could I not be down with a place called triptych?! I paid this pretty place a visit for my sister (Mel P's birthday) and had a blast. The owner is very laid back and extremely helpful when ordering bio-dynamic wine. Yes, he explained what bio-dynamic wine is as well, which is a combination of holistic development of soil and organisms and all that jazz. Very interesting concept, indeed. Now, I'm not a sommelier but this place seemed to be a nice intro into the wine that I might like.
My friend and I actually arrived a bit early and had Mirevel Rose and we had the Shitake mushroom ravioli with artichoke hearts & brown butter lemon sauce. For you wine snobs, no, we didn't give a flying fig newton if it paired well with the Rose. It was still damn good! As soon as the rest of the gang arrived, I ordered the Walu Hawaiian Butter Fish, which was grilled with tandori glaze, cucumber raita, almond cous cous & baby bok Choy. For dessert, my good friend (Rossi C.) shared the Pear Tart, which was poached pears, almond cream, pâté sucrée shell, apple glaze, vanilla gelato. Fine meal, indeed.
Besides the great food and ambiance, the art offers a great balance for your eyes as they take in the unique layout and they serve as great discussion starters. The restroom will definitely give you another thing to discuss as it is a throwback to the 70s memorabilia. All that's missing is the shag rug and your fishbowl platforms.
Seriously though, I really enjoyed Triptych and it's a sweet place to bring good friends and family! Also, super easy to make reservations. Click on "Make a Reservation" and you will be taken straight to a page on opentable.com and you're set!

I frequent this place for brunch because it's unique... and in my neighborhood. It seems to embody the western SoMa vibe- casual, unusual, resourceful (built out of sheet metal and steel beams) peaceful (calming garden patio), edgy (artwork, music) and unpredictable (the restroom is like tripping into a time warp)! It's consistently inconsistent but good. You can go here repeatedly and still feel spontaneous. It's a crap shoot... feeling lucky?!
Love this place - easy parking, cute patio seating for sunny weekend brunch and funky fun bathroom! Our servers have always been really sweet, though sometimes they get slammed and don't seem to have enough people on staff. I like the eggs benedict, just wish they'd toast the muffin more, so it's not soggy.
Had dinner here the other night, and was really looking forward to it because the menu I downloaded looked so interesting, even a little inventive and risk-taking.
What I found was a nice place that specializes in nothing in particular, it seems. Everything is pretty mediocre...not bad, but nothing that is really good either.
I had the octopus appetizer which was ok...definitely could have been a lot better, as the octopus felt like it had been just thawed; and I found it strange to include red grapes in the dish. For a main, I had the paella. It was better than the octopus, but it was only ok. The chicken was overcooked so it was dry and difficult to chew. The squid was definitely the frozen variety and had little texture that fresh squid normally offers. The chorizo...I don't think it was anything more than finely chopped hot links.
I should also point out that my guest had one of the dishes was promoted on the menu as fava beans and tiger prawns. The beans that arrived were NOT fava beans; they were basic cannelloni beans. When we asked, they said they ran out of fava beans, the season was over. Um, why was it on the menu?
On the brighter side, our waiter was pleasant, friendly, interesting to talk to, and he knew the menu well, even if what arrived didn't ultimately knock my socks off. Unfortunately, he was the only one working (it was a Sunday night)! So he was stretched a little thin.
Will I go back? No...I just don't see a reason to...

the good:
* one of the best bloody mary's in the city. seriously.
the rest:
* hit or miss food (yes beignets, no poached eggs)
* hit or miss decor (John Travolta bathroom was fantastic, paintings were terrible). overall, just felt cheap and tacky.
* hit or miss music (it was like the Top 100 songs from the 80s, so REALLY hit or miss)
* weirded me out that this place was virtually empty during my long brunch there 11-2 on a Saturday.
overall disappointed because I'd heard such good things, but there are diamonds in the rough at this place.
Had dinner at this place earlier this week. Very cozy and friendly atmosphere- it feels intimate. I thought the service felt a bit rushed and sporadic, but still very friendly. Food was just okay- really enjoyed an app of ravioli, but I had the Fried Artichoke Rocket Salad, which seemed overly salty, and my dinner partner had the Tagine, wihch seemed to lack substance. The dessert of Gelato Sandwich was also just ok- I felt the cookie should have been warm or something to make this really pop. Anyway, its def a cute place, but maybe not so great for veggies.
I wanted to love this place, I really, really did. Alas, Triptych had a rough Mother's Day.
We had a 1:30 reservation for brunch on Sunday, it was a lovely day, parking was pretty easy and we were seated pretty quickly, they did seat our party of five at a table for four which made it a bit cramped, but it was Mother's Day and it was crowded so I can give them a pass for that one. But then, the issues began, read on:
1. We took our seats and began perusing our menus. No one in the dining room had food on their table, this should've been our first clue that something was amiss.
2. When our waitress came to take our drink orders she seemed to not want to meet our eyes, this really should've been our second clue.
3. The drinks came out in a perfectly reasonable amount of time (The mango mimosa and the iced tea were particularly good) but by the time our waitress came to take our order my water glass was empty, the bus boy didn't notice and it sat that way for quite a while.
4. They were out of beignets! Granted, it was about 1:45 so they'd been serving people for a while but still, when your starter menu is limited to beignets, sweet potato fries and mimosas it would behoove you to make sure you don't run out of those things, especially when you don't even provide a basket of bread or anything like that to tide people over. They were also out of a couple other items but as we hadn't intended to order those things it was not a tragedy.
5. Now things really started to go off the rails, water, mimosa and tea glasses were empty, and time was really ticking by. The party seated next to us decided they had had enough and got up and left. Finally a person who I can only assume was the manager or the owner came by to refresh the drinks. I ordered another mimosa, raspberry this time, it was good, but the mango was better. The water glasses, mysteriously, remained empty, until finally someone came over to refresh them several minutes later. It had been approximately 45 minutes since we ordered our meal.
6. The "should we get up and leave" discussion began in earnest. It was at this point we noticed about 10 or 15 of those check folders lined up on the bar which struck me as odd. Seriously, you're ready to take my money but you can't be bothered to communicate with me as to what in the world is taking so long? Not cool. We managed to flag down the waitress to ask if there was a problem, she said something vague about a back up in the kitchen and apologized for the delay. We were now nearly an hour in to our wait.
7. At about the 1hr, 20min mark our food arrived. Finally! You would think that after all this the food would've been piping hot, steam rising from the plates, obviously fresh out of the oven (or stove, or whatever), but it wasn't. It wasn't cold, but it was just warm, the fries, especially, suffered for it.
After all that, the food actually was pretty tasty, everyone was happy with their meal. Between the five of us we sampled two of their benedicts (with the hollandaise mysteriously missing, wtf?), a burger, a sandwich and the ravioli giving us a good representation of Triptych's offerings. Our waitress was much friendlier once the food finally started to emerge from the kitchen, I truly do understand how stressful it must be to try to deal with customers when things are going wrong that are beyond your control. On the quality of food alone Triptych deserves another shot, but there are several things that could've been done to salvage the situation, these are my suggestions for improvement:
- The waitress should've been upfront with us about whatever kitchen issues they were having and provided an estimate as to how long the wait was likely to be.
- The owner/manager guy should've come around to each table to personally apologize for the delays and to add whatever explanation he felt comfortable giving. To leave your customers to simply wonder what is going on is not acceptable.
- Something could have (and should have) been provided to diners in the interim, a basket of bread, some other sort of small appetizer, whatever they could've come up with, this should've been provided quickly and free of charge given the horrendous delay.
- Updates should've been offered without having to chase people down.
- Drinks should have been kept full.
Apologies were offered as the check was delivered as well as when we were walking out the door, the the waiter and waitress who were working did manage to create a situation such that we could leave on a positive note, because of that I'd be willing to give Triptych another shot, but for now, 2 stars is pretty generous.

gross. this "folsom gem" did not soar to new levels of gastronomica. in fact, it fell flat before it even left the runway. i would say that their food lacks harmony - a mish mash of ingredients that only SOUND good but fail to meet the vision. i had the grilled octopus salad and the snapper. don't even get me started on the yellow parsley in my salad and the FERMENTED pineapple in my snapper.. i won't be reviewing any other aspects of this restaurant because as far as i'm concerned, if the food is this lousy, nothing else matters. i will be glad when all remnants of this dinner has left my body and has been flushed far into the pacific ocean

Came here for brunch and had a really good time. It was a combination of the food, the easy atmosphere, and not having to wait. Plus they have a great patio in the back.
We shared the Beignets ($5.95) to start the morning. You get 3 big puffy pillows. They're not like the square pockets you get from Cafe du Monde, rather these are double the size and a bit denser, slightly reminiscent of Yorkshire pudding. Nonetheless, it hit the spot. The strawberry marscapone was a nice touch. Comes with a side of fresh fruit too.
I had the Eggplant and Polenta Benedict ($10.75). Very unique combo, especially since the polenta were small little crispy cubes, kinda like tater tots. I really liked the texture. The only thing were the poached eggs were over done. They were solid when I got them. No runny yolk.
But I had a great time there. Bright cheery lots of refills on coffee. What more could you ask for.

A surprise Bday dinner for my hubbie of 2 months.
A small group of friends, for a dinner at this spot I found thru yelp.
I liked the interior walls decorated with white window frames with painted glass. It was very casual yet a nice charm to the place.
There was another small group of people that also was celebrating, but it didn't bother us.
The food was good, ie the sweet potato fried and ahi tartare. The downside was that they didn't serve any mixed drinks only beer and wine. I wanted a mojito since I like those instead of beer and wine.
Also the majority of our party ordered the leg of lamb entree and it was a tough piece of meat. Too bad. I knew I should have ordered the fish!
By and by I guess I would come again if I was invitee.
Bio-dynamic wine, never heard of it but in totally fits in to my organic phase that im trying to get into. Came here for a friends Birthday, good food, charming staff, great time. But lets talk about the real reason I posted this add, I have chosen this place as one of my "date" restaurant. It's not pricey, but pricey enough to show that I am not jobless. Great artwork so it looks like I have taste and somewhat educated (note: look at the website to get artist Bio's) and Bio-dynamic wine to make it look im green and down to earth. All of the key points to make a perfect date

I absolutely love this place! I came here for my birthday and I am glad I stuck to my original plan. We came during the evening on a Tuesday night and it wasn't crowded at all which was good. The place is gorgeous...great decor especially in bathroom...i admit I took pictures of the bathroom because it was sooo pretty! The food was great. I had the paella suprema...the seafood was fresh and it was well season. Tuesdays the wine is 20 percent off. The dessert was fabulous....loved the molten chocolate cake...best of all I got to spend the night with good company. Definitely would come back...great date spot. Great service...love it love it! :)

Continuing with my series of SF Brunch Reviews (okay this is only my second one but hey I get points for planning :P), I found Triptych a distant third behind The Butler and the Chef; and Brickhouse. I got the Eggs Benedict with Spinach and Mushroom, which was tasty and very filling but the coffee was a dampener. Also, the potatoes were nothing to Yelp about. The service was unenthusiastic and I found the decor a bit dull. Overall a very average brunch experience.
I'll second and third earlier reviews about Triptych's lack of preparedness on Mother's Day. The food took a long time to get to the table and it when it did come it was lukewarm. The granola pancakes had a couple of sprinkles of granola and were too dense and cake-like. The brought out ketchup in little packets and gave us small portions of syrup. We had to ask the waiter to get us more syrup a number of times to saturate the pancakes. All in all the meal was no bueno, but the wait staff was nice enough.

A friend of mine took me into Triptych a few years ago and it was love at first bite! I especially love the decor which changes every few months. Its kind of like have a really great meal in a chic art gallery.
Great service and consistently on the mark with their food preparation. Over the years I have celebrated many special occasions at Triptych and can get enough of their menu. It is unpretentious and consistently delivers on both taste, presentation, and quality.
I booked a table of 10 for my best friends birthday and Dave's team made it a most memorable celebration. My friends absolutely LOVED this place! David Kittredge and his staff are a class act and the outdoor patio makes for a special dining experience.

After ridiculous drama looking for a place to host our family celebration (one place suddenly shut down after we agreed on a date; another place had ONE waiter on a Saturday night and CUSTOMERS were going to the kitchen and serving food to other customers), I had a bit of trepidation before checking out Triptych. But meeting the hospitable David Kittredge and his staff quickly convinced me that we would be in good hands at Triptcych. David's fairness and hospitality make him the perfect person to work with when you are planning a party at a restaurant. That hospitality was extended to all of our guests and our party was a great success.
David was extremely accommodating and worked with me on the menu, which included a fabulous dessert - a triptych of creme brulee topped with a flaming strawberry, still a topic of conversation among our guests two months later! I was told the lamb dish was phenomenal, and I enjoyed my salmon over coconut-infused rice. The only complaint my fiance had was that the salads were extremely small (like, bread plate size, not salad plate size) which surprised me because I had a normal salad plate serving at my tasting a few weeks earlier. Thankfully, David had included a shared appetizer of mushroom ravioli on the menu so our guests did have enough to eat. And the ravioli were fabulous.
Our families like to party, and Triptych was the perfect spot to do it. We had the whole place to ourselves on a Sunday evening, and David opened up the back garden area for guests who needed some fresh air. This space is very San Francisco funky and the art was fresh and modern, so it was a nice taste of the City for our out-of-town guests. And the disco bathroom was quite the conversation starter. We were able to bring in our own DJ and when people spontaneously got up and started dancing between salad and the entree, the staff just adapted to the situation and waited until people were ready to sit down again.
I seriously cannot say enough about the staff. The chef did a fabulous job, the bus boy was quick and efficient, and our servers, Ora, Trixie, and Kirby were so professional and handled our loud crowd with grace. David has put an amazing staff together and it comes through in the quality of the food and the quality of the service. We have received so many compliments on our party and I wouldn't hesitate to host another one at Triptych.

Friday's night out at Triptych was a pleasant surprise. Good service, great food, and a relaxing, friendly atmosphere made it the perfect girls night out in the city.
Lemme break it down for you -
Ambiance
When I walked in, the simple setup and decor made it seem like we were walking into a coffee shop at the wrong time of day. However, as we got seated in the corner of the restaurant and found the cushions, we knew it was going to be a night of loud laughing, girls gossip and fun. The restaurant wasn't too busy, and the staff gave us plenty of room and time to hang out and enjoy our meal. Check out their art gallery throughout the restaurant.
Fare
Our evening consisted of the following menu choices:
Shaved Fennel Salad ($9)
Grilled Octopus Salad ($8)
Walu Hawaiian Butter Fish ($19)
Paella Suprema ($17)
Cognac Glazed Muscovy Duck ($18)
Warm Chocolate Molton Cake ($9)
Triptych of Cremes Brulee ($8)
I ordered the Butter Fish (grilled, tandoori glaze, cucumber raita, almond cous cous & baby bok choy). the perfect dish that made my taste buds sing. The tandoori and raita worked hand and hand and gave the soft white texture of the fish a surprising but delicious twist in flavor. And the cous cous that the fish rested on was cooked to perfection. I also ordered soup of the day - a Vegan Split Pea soup, which I constantly seasoned with salt and pepper. I got to sample the duck plate, which was nicely flavored with a sweet sauce accented with "truffle buttered red cabbage and carrot-cardamom essense", but the 7 or so slices of duck did not seem adequate for an entree appetite.
Attention
Definitely noteworthy. The staff were kind, friendly and attentive. David, the owner came out to greet us mid-meal and asked how we heard about the restaurant and how the food was. Given that the restaurant has been around for 4 years, business seemed slow. But I appreciated the space and service, and am curious to try their weekend brunches, and would be happy to have the Butter Fish again.
I had brunch here with a few friends. I got such a nice welcome when I walked in. I was early meeting my friends, so I sat at the bar and ordered a raspberry momosa. Mmmmmmm good! I saw other food come out for another party and it looked beautifully yummy. We shared an order of the sweet potatoe fries. If you love them, order them here. I got the Eggplant, polenta eggs benedict. An english muffin topped with warm eggplant, crispy polenta, poached egg and holandaise (?sp) sauce with potatoes. I totally recommend getting this if you like polenta. I tried my friend's granola pancakes. Another Mmmm good. If you're coming with a large party like 5 and up make a reservation!

Never, ever, ever again! Their website says they're open at 5:00, they don't actually open until 6:00 and even so, the waitress (more like spaced waitress--but she was sweet) told us she was prepping, brought us warm water and took all our utensils. She gave only one person in our party the menu.
There was no bread offered and when asked she brought a sad, little, stale, stump that, "was left over from last night." Since we'd been drinking martini's next door until Triptych opened, because we actually assumed the website would be accurate, food on stomach stat was in order.
Half of the wine was unavailable, they only had two kinds of beer--they were out of the rest. Half of the entrees were unavailable, but there was one duck breast left! The restaurant reeked of stale cooking oil. The bun my burger was served on was stale, but the burger itself was good. The spinach was bitter. And so am I.
Went here for mother's day brunch. management seemed to incorrectly estimate their capacity because we had a reservation yet had to wait almost 40 minutes to be seated. we were seated in the outside patio in the rear of the restaurant, and luckily it was a very nice day, but the wind was knocking all sorts of leaves and pollen onto the table. thus, they could take better care of their plant life in the back, or not have so much. most importantly, we were disappointed that they ran out of beignets, which we came there exclusively for.
our food took another 40-50 minutes to come out after ordering as it seemed like the kitchen was being overworked. the best entree out of the 4 that we ordered was a chicken salad sandwich with lingonberries. my croquette with smoked ham was just ok (i've had better ones in NYC).
One positive is that they have fresh works from local artists on the short travel through the hallway from the main dining room to the rear patio.
our experience could have been a lot better, probably on a normal day, but my initial impression of this place is "eh".
If you live in SoMa, Triptych is a good choice for weekend brunch if you don't want to deal with going across town and waiting in a long line.
In groups of 4 or fewer, we've generally been seated immediately on the weekend. Brunch is very good. They do a few takes on Eggs Benedict which are all tasty, and a few varieties of mimosas.
The ambiance is a nice departure from the typical brunch joints. There's a rotating collection of art on the walls, sometimes a DJ playing (yes even at brunch) and on nice days you can sit in a little garden in the back while you eat.
Minus one star for being a little over-priced for medium-sized portions.

You have no idea how much I want to give this place 5 stars.
I mean, I'm hungover from the entire weekend, and I'm sitting there in the quaint outside patio having a most AWESOME conversation about TAXES, something this associates-degree holder has NO IDEA ABOUT since I kinda *forgot* to do my 2005 taxes until 2007 and if you ask me, FUCK THE IRS, they can wait a little bit longer anyways. But I still love to listen, because, well, you can gain a wealth of knowledge if you just shut your damn mouth and realise that other people have vocal chords too. *whowuddathunk??*
How else do you start a morning when a) you were drunk as shit the night before b) was woken up numerous times throughout the night and c) kinda super hungover?
You drink mimosas. MANGO MIMOSAS. You see, I have an affinity for mangos, because my best friend's mom growing up would sit there at the kitchen table and offer me inordinate amounts of food while telling my best friend that she needed to be skinny like me. No, no, thats not completely awkward or anything. But regardless, she wouldn't STOP ASKING so to appease her I obliged and said yes. The main food of choice besides everything else in the world was mangos. So I ate alot of mangos, and I love them. Which means if you pair them with alcohol, I might as well die happy.
For brunch, I ordered the Grilled Eggplant and Crispy Polenta Benedict. Eggplant, polenta and a poached egg with a perfect amount of hollandaise??? I thought my quest had been over for the best Eggs Florentine (don't worry, I found it, remember?), but why did this look so gosh darned good?! It was DIFFERENT. And AWESOME. I mean, not like French Laundry awesome, but it was up there. I'd totally order it again, but the pancakes one of my fellow diners ordered looked so spectacular, and I love a good carb-induced coma.
Oh yeah--THE BEIGNETS! Fucking FABULOUS.
The decor was so modern, so chic, so artsy. Their bathroom was like walking into someone's canvas, you could tell they put a lot of hard work into it. The weather was so gorgeous, the patio was filled with plants and it was like the book's description in The Secret Garden...ahh how I loved that book. Not the ending. The cousins had KIDS?!? What kind of sick secret garden WAS THAT?! Thankfully, there was no incestuous activity, just wonderful company.
Five stars because even though the wait was a little too long, they're still fucking awesome.

Not good food for dinner. Not at all. My "medium" burger was well-done. The shrimp with fava and cannelli beans had no fava beans. My hubby's duck was also over-cooked. The dessert (molten cake with ice cream) was not terrible. I should have been tipped off by the random asian/pan-international menu that was all over the place.
The whole dinner was just eh. At least the waitress was nice and the outdoor garden was kind of nice.
Maybe brunch is the way to go, but I'm never going back.
My friends and I LOVED this place! We were a big group- there were about a dozen of us- but they handled us very well.
They have a GREAT Tuesday night deal. Wine is half-off and if you order before 7 (I think- def. check before you go) you can get a pre-fix, which includes a starter, entree and dessert for $20. (You have to share the dessert w/ another person). That's quite a deal- especially since everything tastes amazing.
The Fried Artichoke Rocket salad and the Shaved Fennel salad were both superb. What really got me going was the pancetta wrapped dates that are deep-fried and placed in the Shaved Fennel salad. My friend and I asked the owner about them and then special ordered a plate. He said that he was thinking about making them a separate appetizer. I hope he does- those things are "orgasm in your mouth" good.
For my main I ordered Pork Osso Bucco- it was delich. Then my friend and I had the Warm Chocolate Molten Cake. Yum!
Be sure to check out the bathroom while you're there. It's an homage to the music of the 70s.
Huh, I could pretty much copy the Review by Grace K. further down on this place. Read her review and then come back to mine...
Ok so I also ended up here for a friend's birthday party. The tables were split all up - I think we ended up with three groups of people with no real coherency at all. We had a set menu as well - 4 courses. In reality it was like a thimble of soup, you share the next course with another person, you get your own main course and then you share a desert with someone. That's like 2.25 courses. If I recall correctly I had some pork type main course. It was unremarkable. Our total ended up being about $70 per person and this after we had brought all of our own wine.
The place was ok I suppose, but for $70 I expect a lot more than just ok.

I made a reservation at Triptych for 8 people after being seized by a crazy impulse to throw my boyfriend a surprise party. Let me just say - I am NOT a party planner.
Enter - David, the owner of Triptych and my personal savior. He called twice in the weeks leading up to the party to confirm my reservations and coordinate exactly how we were going to structure the surprise.
On the night of the event David greeted the birthday boy and I and oh-so-casually lead us over to the bar for a drink while our table (in the adorable back patio area) was 'prepared.' The surprise went off without a hitch and to top that off the food was AMAZING. The whole party was ooh-ing and ah-ing over their dishes. The osso buco, scallops and mushroom ravioli appetizer were huge hits along with some of the best sweet potato fries ever made. We even had a chance to meet Diego, the head chef who personally came out to check on us. Needless to say - it was a pretty awesome night.
We're definitely going back - hopefully to try their weekend brunch and DEFINITELY for another (non-surprise party related) dinner!

Went here for a birthday party. The staff reserved us the outdoor seating, for dinner.
I had the pork and garbanzo beans dish. I savored every last chick pea.
After the meal, the chef came out and asked us how we liked it. We ended up bullshitting for 30 minutes, and then he asked us to the bar next door for shots.
I will be back.
